Interior Trends: 2018

Interior Trends: 2018
3rd January 2018 Ollie Ody

Welcome 2018! I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas & New Year? With a new year comes new interior trends & in this post we explore the key themes we’re seeing for interiors in 2018 & the pieces which will be on everyone’s wish list by next Christmas!

Home Bars

A fully-kitted out bar has always been a popular feature in the homes of those who love to entertain but there is no doubt that the demand for cocktails in the living room is growing. From large vintage pieces to DIY bar trolleys, there are plenty of takes on this trend. Off the back of this, demand for cocktail & barware suitable for a home environment has also grown and with it the availability of chic glassware. Think martini glasses or whiskey tumblers in different hues and finishes.

Velvet, velvet, velvet.

Velvet sofas, velvet cushions, velvet bedding & velvet curtains. Our love of this most sumptuous of fabrics is having a huge revival. To ensure it’s sophisticated & chic rather than kitsch, we recommend plain, muted hues that can be layered for a luxurious look.

Moody colours

For a long time we have enjoyed the ‘bright & light’ look of pale walls & furniture. 2018 is probably going to be the year things take a (slightly) darker turn. Think Farrow & Ball’s Hague blue or Railings, everywhere. Deeper wood colours in furniture will be used to create balance against a stronger palette & of course, the use of luxury fabrics such as velvet will help cast a more impactful vibe. We will also start to see a shift to using more dark fittings in our homes. Graphite, anthracite or indeed matte black fittings will become more sort after for sure.

Metals are key – all except copper.

Copper had a moment. A real moment. It exploded across every high street & then it started to be *too* popular. It’s still a beautiful metal, especially if you’re using a burnished copper & shouldn’t be shunned if you truly love it but we have a feeling that brass will take the lead. Golden finishes have been more prevalent throughout home decorating, as has black and they therefore have a timeless quality while still remaining unique.

These are some of our predictions for home interior trends for 2018. Of course, a beautiful home is rarely ONLY trend led & we always, always recommend that you get pieces you love because you LOVE them – not because they are the fashion.
